No Shortcuts - The Origin
Sloane has been a labor of love for 10 years now. It was started with a great friend in business school as an idea for a product that we both needed. The brand has carried on as a "side hustle" while I have been working full time at Procter & Gamble in Marketing. The journey has made me feel like a human punching bag many days, but it also has been incredibly rewarding and given me a skillset I could not have gotten anywhere else.
I get asked a lot about Sloane. How do you do it working full time? How did you start it? How did you get funding? What advice can you give to entrepreneurs? How did you develop the branding? How did you choose your suppliers? Why do you keep doing it? What do you want to do with it long term?
I want the blog to be a resource for me to share my experience to help others. A lot of people want to do their own thing. Maybe have it turn into something special that gives them great joy, helps others and leaves a legacy? I believe that path can lead to personal satisfaction and financial gain. That path can also lead to total carnage, personal pain, financial loss, sleepless nights and deep questioning on why did I even think this was a good idea!
I want to title these posts "No Shortcuts". That is mindset I believe is critical for anyone starting in business.....big company or startup . I was the naive guy 10 years ago thinking both would be a breeze and I'd get some quick big wins I was wrong.
Entrepreneurship is a wild ride. It's been one for Sloane. I am excited to share what I have been through and what I have learned along the way.
